Sharukh Khan was born on 2 November 1965 and brought up in Mangalore till the age of five. he is an Indian film actor. Referred to in the media as "Badshah of Bollywood", "King Khan" and "King of Romance", Khan has acted in 75 Hindi films in genres ranging from romantic dramas to action thrillers.

His mother is from Andhra and lived in Karnataka and used to speak all four south languages. his grandfather was the Karnataka State chief engineer of Mangalore Port and was the first Oxford-educated engineer, who was highly respected. He designed and built the Mangalore Port.

his mother was the eldest daughter and his mausies had got married late. he had an older sister, so he became the first boy in the family and his mom gave him to be looked after by his grandmother for five years. As such, he was brought up in Mangalore by his maternal aunts and nani.

N. Santosh Hegde


Nitte Santosh Hegde (born June 16, 1940) is a former justice of the Supreme Court Of India, former Solicitor General of India and the Lokayukta (ombudsman) for Karnataka State of India.

Santhosh Hegde was born on June 16th, 1940 in Nitte near Karkala, Udupi-Mangalore, Karnataka State. He did his schooling at the St. Aloysius High School, Mangalore and the Madras Christian School, Madras. He completed his Intermediate from St. Joseph's College, Bangalore and his B.Sc., degree from the Central College, Bangalore. He then went on to get a Law degree from the Govt. Law College, Bangalore (presently known as the University Law College, Bangalore). Justice Hegde is married to Mrs. Sharada Hegde, who is herself an M.A., BL. At heart, he is a simple man who loves listening to Ghazals and Hindi music.

Justice Hegde is the son of Late Justice K S Hegde, Former Justice of Supreme Court of India and Former Speaker of Lok Sabha. His Mother, Late Mrs. Meenakshi Hegde, who belonged to Nitte Village.

Genelia D'Souza is an Indian actress, who has acted in Indian films in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, and Kannada languages.

Anant Pai (17 September 1929 – 24 February 2011), Born in Karkala- Mangalore, Karnataka to Venkataraya and Susheela Pai, he lost his parents at the age of two. At the age of twelve, he came to Mumbai, where he studied in Orient School, Mahim. He studied chemistry, physics and chemical technology at the University of Bombay Department of Chemical Technology (UDCT now UICT) and was a dual degree holder from the University of Bombay.
Anant Pai popularly known as Uncle Pai, was an Indian educationalist and creator of Indian comics, in particular the Amar Chitra Katha series in 1967, along with the India Book House publishers, and which retold traditional Indian folk tales, mythological stories, and biographies of historical characters. In 1980, he launched Tinkle, a children's anthology, which was started under Rang Rekha Features, India's first comic and cartoon syndicate, that lasted till 1998, with him as the Managing Director
Anant Pai suffered a heart attack and passed away on 24 February 2011

Malani himself did his early schooling at the Milagres School in Mangalore and his BBM at SDM College, Mangalore.His father Ramesh Malani was a film distributor in Mangalore for many years and was the Manager of Ramakanthi Theatre. His mother Meena Cutinha, is a Mangalorean Catholic and the sister of actor Dolphy Cutinha, well known as "Dolla". Meena is also a Gurkaar for the Milagres-Attavar parish in Mangalore.

Prior to his career in journalism, Malani also worked as a Japanese Translator for some years in Paradise Stone Exporting Company, in Mangalore and Jin Information Systems in Bangalore. He was also a Baila dancer in Eric Ozario's group in his earlier days, besides took part in various functions and organised film dance competitions, cultural events in the year 1992 - 1995 very successfully in Mangalore, under the name "Malani Presents' Something Special!"

Malani completed a course in Sandesha and then became a Film Journalist for Canara Times. Later, he moved to Bangalore and started writing for Times of India and then switched on to script writing for Kannada films.
Sundeep Malani is married to Reshma, the niece of popular Konkani singer, Meena Rebimbus. Reshma works in a logistics company and is a part time costume designer. She has designed costumes for Kannada films like Preethse (Sonali Bendre and Shivraj Kumar), Indradhanush, Miss California, SMS 6260 and for Pooja Gandhi in Onir's "I am Abhimanyu".

Gundibail Rama Sunderam (1930-2010)born March 29, 1930, Hailing from Padubidri near Udupi -Mangalore, Karnataka he is a former Indian cricketer who played in 2 Tests in 1955.

G.R. Sunderam was a right arm fast medium bowler and a right hand batsman. He underwent training in the cricket school run by Alf Gover in 1953. He represented India in the unofficial 'Test' against the Silver Jubilee Overseas Cricket team later that year before appearing in Ranji matches.

His two Test matches were against New Zealand in 1955-56. He took one of the two wickets when New Zealand made 450 for 2 in the Delhi Test and two more wickets in the next one. But the presence of medium pacers like G. S. Ramchand and Dattu Phadkar, who were much better batsmen, limited his chances.

Sunderam represented Bombay and Rajasthan in the Ranji trophy. His son Pradeep Sundaram opened the bowling for Rajastan in the 1980s and once took 10 wickets in an innings.
Sunderam was born in Padubidri near Udupi -Mangalore ,Southern Karnataka and had Tulu as his mother-tongue.

80-year-old G R Sundaram died on 20 June 2010 following a short illness.

Budhi Kunderan

Budhisagar Krishnappa Kunderan born on 2 October 1939 in Mulky, near Mangalore in Karnataka. He was an Indian cricketer. He played as a wicket keeper for the most of his career, and was an exciting but unorthodox right-handed batsman.
An aggressive but unorthodox batsman who was highly skilled with the gloves, Kunderan made his Test debut against Australia in 1959-60 without having played a single first-class match. In all, Kunderan played 18 Tests and scored 981 runs at 32.70 with two hundreds and three fifties. Against England in 1963-64, he became the first wicketkeeper in history to pass 500 runs for a Test series.
Budhi Kunderan, the former Indian wicketkeeper died from lung cancer at the age of 66.on 23 June 2006 in Glasgow, Scotland .

Born in Mangalore, Karnataka, Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay (April 3, 1903 – October 29, 1988) was a Gandhian, a social reformer, a freedom fighter, and most remembered for her contribution to Indian independence movement, for being the driving force behind the renaissance of Indian handicrafts, handlooms, and theatre in post-Independence India, and for upliftment of the socio-economic standard of Indian women by pioneering the co-operative movement in India
Born on 3 April 1903 Kamaladevi was the fourth and youngest daughter of a Saraswat Brahmin couple in Mangalore. Her father, Ananthaya Dhareshwar was the District Collector of Mangalore, and her mother Girijabai, from whom she inherited an independent streak, belonged to an aristocratic family from Karnataka.
Having finished high school in Mangalore, Kamaladevi joined Queen Mary’s College in Madras,
When Kamaladevi came to know of Mahatma Gandhi’s Non-Cooperation Movement in 1923, and she promptly returned to India, to join the Seva Dal, a Gandhian organisation set up to promote social upliftment. Soon she was placed in charge of the women's section of the Dal, where she got involved in recruiting, training and organizing girls and women of all ages women across India, to become voluntary workers, 'sevikas'.
In 2007, the Outlook Magazine chose Kamaladevi amongst its list of 60 Great Indians. and she was India Today's, 100 Millennium People.

Sanjay Vijay Manjrekar:

Sanjay Manjrekar, born on 12 July, 1965, in Mangalore, Karnataka . is an Indian cricketer who never quite lived up to the expectations at the highest level, averaging 37.14 in his 37 Tests between 1987/88 and 1996/97, as opposed to an overall first-class average of 55. He is the son of Vijay Manjrekar.
Manjrekar's best performances were against Pakistan, against whom he had a Test average of 94 and two Test centuries. He made his double-century against Pakistan in Lahore.His first notable performance at the international level came in the 1989 series against the West Indies in the West Indies. He made a century against a powerful, menacing fast bowling attack and gave glimpses of his immense potential, which continued in the series against Pakistan in 1989.
Manjrekar made an unsuccessful attempt at reinventing himself as an opener in 1997, and faded out of the international scene. He kept wicket occasionally, and often regaled team-mates with his singing. He. Manjrekar is currently a cricket commentator and television compere. He has also recorded a music album.

Aravind Adiga: born 23 October 1974 is an Indian journalist and author hails from Mangalore. His debut novel, The White Tiger, won the 2008 Man Booker Prize

Madhava Adiga and Usha Adiga, Kannadigas both of whom hailed from Mangalore.He grew up in Mangalore and studied at Canara High School, then at St. Aloysius High School, where he completed his SSLC in 1990. Daya Nayak is a sub-inspector with the Mumbai police force. He was born in Yennehole village near Karkala in South Canara – Mangalore, Karnataka.

He is known for eliminating gangsters of the Mumbai underworld, acting on tip-offs from a well-developed intelligence gathering network. Anant Agarwal received the B.Tech. degree in electricalengineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India, in 1982, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the Stanford University, Stanford, CA, in 1984 and 1987, respectively. Kadri Gopalnath is an Indian saxophonist and one of the pioneers of Carnatic music on the saxophone. born in (1950) Kadri ,Mangalore Dakshina Kannada district, Karnataka.

Gopalnath learnt the instrument under Gopalkrishna Iyer of Kalaniketana, Mangalore.
In Madras, Gopalnath came in contact with the mridangist T.V. Gopalkrishnan who identified the youngster's potential and tutored him. His maiden performance was for the Chembai Memorial Trust. 1980 Bombay jazz festival was a turning point for Gopalnath. John Handy, a jazz musician from California was present at the festival. Hearing Gopalnath play, Handy asked if he could go on stage and perform alongside with him. So well did the two mesh, Handy in the jazz style and Gopalnath in the Carnatic style, that it became an instant hit with the audience.

Gopalnath has participated in the Jazz Festival in Prague, Berlin Jazz Festival, International Cervantino Festival in Mexico, Music Hall Festival in Paris, the BBC Promenade concert in 1994 at London and has toured all over the world. He has cut many albums and has recorded a number of cassettes and CDs. Together with jazz flutist James Newton he recorded Southern Brothers. His production called 'East-West' is an audio-video presentation that, as the title suggests, is a fusion of Western and Indian music. This album took 6 months to produce
and has compositions from Saint Tyagaraja, Beethoven and the likes. Film director K. Balachandar used Gopalnath's services in his Tamil film Duet. Titles and honors have come his way, the most cherished being the Asthana Vidwan of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam and the Shringerei Sharada Peetam. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2004.
